LIGHTING THE WAY…

CB LighthouseThe LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

To the ancients, light was preferable to darkness hands down, with the only exception being a time to sleep.  The darkness held terrors for both those on land and sea but especially for those who at any moment could have their ship dashed on the rocks.  It is no wonder that lighthouses were built to aid in navigation going back thousands of years.  It is also no accident that light and salvation are mentioned in the same breath by the psalmist in this passage of scripture.  He certainly got the connection, as should we.

Pictured here is the lighthouse that provides assistance to mariners finding their way past Cape Bonavista, Newfoundland.

Consider Now the Lilies (and other unnamed flowers)…

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

STRATFORD, ONTARIO: God has blessed us with flowers.  We have become accustomed to having them year round whenever we want them.  There was a time that flowers were only available when the seasons changed and they were there but for a brief time.  Fortunately, the fact that florists can provide flowers on demand, the veracity of this passage of scripture is in no way diminished.  The bloom pictured here was part of the multitude of community gardens and flowerbeds in the town of Stratford, Ontario.  I guess that when you have as much winter as they do, you really appreciate the presence of colors like the ones shown in the photo here.

DAY BY DAY

BLUE JAYPROVERBS 6:

5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.  6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

ST. MARY’S, ONTARIO:  I recently stayed at a bed & breakfast in St. Mary’s, Ontario.  Each morning I had the opportunity to observe the birds and squirrels as they gathered their “daily bread” from the feeders located outside of our dining room windows.  It was a graphic reminder of what Jesus spoke of regarding our reliance on God for what we need.  Pictured here is one of the brilliantly colored Blue Jays that frequented the feeder.
